GREAT FALLS — Montana Tech’s women’s basketball team got back into the win column Saturday.
Martha Dembek scored 17 points and Monica Landdeck and Rachel Farris each added 14 as the Orediggers came from behind for a 65-63 win over the University of Great Falls. Stats
Farris hit a pair of free throws with 24 seconds left to put the Orediggers up 64-62. Kaylyn Coverdell stole the ball. She was fouled and hit one of two free throws with 11 seconds on the clock.
A game-tying 3-point attempt by Jenna Randich was off the mark, but Darah Huertas-Vining got the rebound and was fouled.
She hit one shot, then missed intentionally with 1 second left. Stephanie McDonagh grabbed the offensive board and got off a last-second shot. It didn’t fall.
McDonagh scored 16 points to lead the Argos. Huertas-Vining added 14 points and eight rebounds, and Nneka Nadi tossed in 13.
Kimi Heng added eight points for the Orediggers, who were playing without injured guard Hattie Thatcher. Kourtney Coverdell tossed in five, Shay Potter scored four, Kaylee Zard netted two, and Kaylnn Coverdell scored the one. Dembek also pulled down 10 rebounds.
Tech improved to 10-0 overall and 4-5 in Frontier Conference play. Great Falls fell to 12-7 and 1-7.
The Orediggers will be at home Thursday to take on Montana Western.
